migrating domain and sql domain user logins

Hello!
Today, I've successfully migrated a domain controler named DC2 to the new
domain. I've also changed its computer name, after joining him into the
new domain. And later i've promoted this server back to DC.
Now here is my Q: This server is also running SQL 2000 and OLAP services.
The migration of the server was success, I've rebuild the master tables
(on default and second instance) fine with exactly
defined stored procedures. But a lot of applications were using domain
logons to connect to SQL. For examle: on one of the instances there were
users like OLD_DOMAIN_NAME\user1, OLD_DOMAIN_NAME\user2 etc...
Now the problem is that domain name has changed but domain user info
stayed. HOW do i tell SQL server to change the domain name OLD_DOMAIN_NAME
to NEW_DOMAIN_NAME (the users were migrated successfuly into the new
domain, so they already exist in the new domain.
To make thing short:
How to tell SQL server to change the
OLD_DOMAIN_NAME\users* --> NEW_DOMAIN_NAME\users* logins?
Please help!!!!

I wrote the whole thing a bit confusing, so here is the article that
describes my dilema:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/240872/
I'm reading this article and I'm wondering... Do i really need to go thrue
this procedure, or is it enough just to delete old sql domain user
login and than recreate it, for example:
I'll delete OLD_DOMAIN_NAME\user1 (in SQL logins)
and than i will create a new user:
NEW_DOMAIN_NAME\user1.
Is this ok, or will I be experiences some problems when trying to connect
(because of SID's etc..)?
This is a production server, so I really need to get clear with his facts
here.
Thank you!

Ok, so I've study the material, I understand everything except this:
1.) "Log on to the server that is running SQL Server as a system
administrator, and then run the Sp_sidmap.sql file in the user database."
So, where exactly is the user database? I really don't know what's meant
by that.
2.) I need to execute this script and the other things on the second
instance too, right?
Thank you.

Migrating database from 7.0 to 2k

Hi,
I want to move a database from server A (Sql 7.0) to Server B (Sql 2000) in

I try exporting from A to B and work fine with the tables but it not tranfer

There is any utility that i could download to migrate in a better way? If
yes, where to find it?

Why don't you just do just do a =backup and restore? Just make sure you transfer the logins =first.

Migrating a database

We have a database running under SQL Server 7 on a Win NT server. We
have recently added Win2K servers, created a new domain and installed
SQL Server 7 on one of the servers. I would like to be able to log into
either domain from a workstation, use Enterprise Manager to access
either database and use the migration tools to copy the database from
the NT server to the 2K server.
We have created a trust relationship that allows me to log into either
domain, but when I try to use Enterprise Manager to create a
registration to the database on the other domain, or try to use the
migration tool to copy the database, I get an error saying that my user
account cannot log into the other system. ( I have the same user name
and password on both domains and domain admin privileges).
Can this be done directly? How?
Do I need "linked servers"? -- It doesn't like my account to create this
either.
Do I need a "remote server"?
Reading the documentation creates more questions than answers. I would
appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction. ThanksWhat is the exact error you are seeing and which domain are you logging
into, the new one or the other one.
Rand
This posting is provided "as is" with no warranties and confers no rights.|||When I'm logged into the NT domain and trying to register SQL Server on the 2K
server, I get "login failed for user 'patenaude'".
When I'm logged into the 2K domain and trying to register SQL server on the NT
server, I get " loged failed for user 'null'. Not associated with a trusted
SQL Server connection."
I get similar messages trying to set up a linked server.

the SQL Server using NT or SQL authentication. The error indicates SQL
authentication. If so does the 'patenaude' SQL login exist? Is the password
correct?
When you are logging into the Win 2K domain, the error indicates that you
cannot be validated on the domain controller. That is where the null is
coming from. Check the security log of the domain controller for this
domain for errors related to this account. Also if you are logged on to the
workstation using a local account you will see this error.

the same error message about my user account not being valid. (The user id is
good, the password is good.) My workstation is a member of the NT domain and
the trust relationship is set up to the point where I can log into either
domain. The user name is the same on both domains. I have tried registering
across the domain from both directions, using the default log-in with NT
authentication, using the specific login with my user name and using the
specific log-in with each of the domains added ( NTdomain\user & 2Kdomain\user)
I get the same results each time. I looked in the event logs on the servers and
there is no mention of the attempt in any of the logs.

Migrate database objects to new server

How to migrate all SQL 2000 objects (tables, views, SPs)
and users from current SQL server to a new SQL 2000
server in different domain? DO I need to modify DTS
packages?
Thanks in advance.
-DonHi
You could restore a backup or detach/attach the database. This should be
alot quicker.
See
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3ben-us%3b224071
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q314546
For DTS packages you can either follow the instructions in the second link
or use DTS backup utility from
http://www.sqldts.com/default.aspx?242
