Migrating Data from MsAccess
I'm trying to migrate the data from Access to MSDE database.
What is the easiest and most efficent method of doing it.
Also the AutoNumber field from Access, how does that move over to MSDE ?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

|||Buy Microsoft SQL Server Developers Version (if you don't already have it)
and use Enterprise Manager and the data import wizard to import your Access
data. Dealing with an AutoNumber column is easy, define your destination
columns as an IDENTITY column and allow identity insert when importing the
data.

Can you import to a MSDE database from Enterprise Manager ? Will that
database still be portable to MSDE ?

SQL Server 2000 and MSDE 2000 share the same engine, as they are only
different edition of the same product, so MSDE database can be used by SQL

Migrating an Access Database to MSDE
to find a solution.
Is it possible to migrate a database from Access to a Sqldatabase in MSDE?
If so, how? The Access Upsize Wizard doesn't seem to do it?
Thanks in advance.
The Access upsize wizard should move the data but not much more. You can
also use DTS to import Access/JET database. Unfortunately, an "Access" JET
database also contains, forms, reports, macros and other "stuff" that is
lost when you move to MSDE. The Access application itself also uses
techniques that don't migrate well and don't take advantage of SQL Server's
power.

Migrate mySQL to MSDE
I'd like to migrate a mySQL database to MSDE (developpement
purpose only). Is there any way/tools/scripts I could use
to do that ?

Get the Developers Edition of SQL Server. It's only $49 US or less.
With it you will have all the tools and documentation you need for importing
from just about any datasource.

Migrate MSDE data to SQL 2000
My program has already been reconfigured to point to a remote (from the XP
viewpoint) SQL 2000 server. As such, it has created the 2 databases that it
uses and is already populating those databases with data.
The question is, how do I get the "old" data from MSDE on the XP box into
the "new" databases on the remote SQL server?
When I try to use DTS and choosing the default of OLE Provider for SQL for
the source, I can't connect to the XP MSDE, which is using SQL Auth. I know
I am using the correct "sa" password for the MSDE database.
Robert
You have a few options: DTS, Detatch/Reattach, or Backup/Restore.
I prefer to backup on the old server, copy the backup file to the new
server, and restore it on the new server. This is fairly easy to do. Just
make sure you create the users from the old server on the new server first,
and then run sp_change_users_login to eliminate orphaned users after you do
the restore.

MSDE installs by default disabling network protocols...in order to them
after installation you have to run the
Server Network Utility (svrnetcn.exe) and enabling the desired
protocol(s)...
Win XP Windows Firewall could be an issue too and please have a look at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841251/en-us in order to enable remote
connectivity...

Migrate MSDE 2000 to SQL 2000
database to SQL 2000 database. I want to put all
databases on my 1 SQL server.
Thanks.
The simplist way to do this is to backup and restore the databases to your
new server. You will then need to add any SQL Server logins to your new
server that are users in your databases. Then run sp_change_users_login (see
BOL) to synch the database users with the logins.

Migrate from Access to MSDE
We have been using VB and Access to collect our date for several years.
Now our Access database is reaching 2 gb and we will soon have to switch to
sql server.
As intermediate step I downloaded MSDE2000 relA and istalled it.
I tried to use "Upsizing Wizard" but at the end, even if let me go trough to
process, it does not create the project file.
What do I do wrong?
Thank you
You have the same size limitations in MSDE as you do in Access. Your
MSDE database will actually be larger than it would be in Access due
to the increased overhead involved in SQL Server, but it's not clear
if that is a problem or not since you have not posted any error
messages. You can get more information about the upsizing wizard and
its many points of failure from the upsizing whitepaper, available at
http://support.microsoft.com/default...en-us;q294407.

I tried Upsizing Wizard with a small database with only 2 tables. I did get
no error message, but Access did not created the project file. Into the
upsizing report, that is created at the end, for each table it says "skipped".

I'd strongly suggest you get a copy of the developer edition of sql server.
It's about $49 USD and provides a whole raft of tools that will be useful to
you. You might have more luck using SQL Enterprise Manager to import your
tables, etc. from your Access databases. You get a lot more control and can
see a lot more of what's going on.

|||Did you read the upsizing whitepaper? It tells you why the wizard
skips tables, which it does for a myriad of reasons. I'd definitely
follow Greg's recommendation to purchase the Developer edition to
familiarize yourself with SQL Server. You can use it to develop a
solution which you then deploy using MSDE (the license agreement
prohibits using the Dev edition on a production server). Access/MSDE
alone do not have the capability to develop applications and neither
are much use in learning SQL Server.

Migrate DB from MSDE to Sql Server 2005 Express
My MSDE database has simple SPs (no functions), and straight forward tables - can I just use DTS from Enterprise Manager to transfer this from MSDE to SQL Express, or create a backup, and import that into SQL Express 2005?
Also, there was a sort of Enterprise Manager available for SQL Server 2005 Express at one point - does anyone know where to find that?
Thanks for any pointers/help.
MarkSQL Server Express comes with Express manager a separate install but I don't think the new DTS Integration Services is part of it but the product is still in beta so download the developer edition and use the integration services to do the migration. The management studio the replacement of Enterprise manager is a separate install under management tools. Try the thread below to download the developer edition. Hope this helps.

When I tried the SQL Express beta earlier this year, I had some troubleconnecting to the database from a ASP.NET 1.1 application.
I found out that (at least in my environment) I had to connect to thedatabase using tcp/ip. In may case (the database was on the samemachine as the ASP.NET application) I used Server=127.0.0.1,1433instead of Server=(local) in the connection string.
It should also be possible to use Server=servername, portnumber instead of hard coding theip number.

You have to script the schema and data out and run it against 2000.

Migrate Backup DAT file from MS SQL to MSDE 2000
Anyone know how to migrate migrate backup file DAT from MS
SQL 7.0 to MSDE 2000?
Thanks
Michael
If this is a backup file created with SQL Servers BACKUP command then you
can simply restore the database to the MSDE 2000 instance. The RESTORE
command will convert the database for you.

Migrate
Is there a DTS package or osql commands that I can export the entire database sp and all to a sql script file.
Regards
S(:You can create scripts for all of the database objects (tables, view, sprocs, etc.) but I don't believe you can create scripts for the data too. You can use DTS to copy the data, however, after you create the objects.
I haven't tried this with MSDE but with Sql Server databases you can detach them from your local database and physically copy the database files to the remote destination and then re-attach them there. The database has to be compatible with where you are attaching it and whether it considers MSDE files compatible is the question.

Microsofts Sql web admin and sqldmo
has anyone had the opportunity to try the sql web admin tool? if so, i have one question.
How can i use this to connect to a remote sql/msde server?
in the server textbox on the login screen i try 'machine name'\'instance name', along with the sa username and password. This does not work however.
am i just entering the wrong value , or do i need to change the code of the .connect method to allow for remote connections?
TIA.
-C-By "does not work", do you mean you are getting an error?
I have been successful using Web Data Administrator to connect to a remote database. The remote database must have mixed authentication (SQL Server and Windows). and you must be using a valid login and password. I accessed the server using the IP address.
As an additional point, I was VPN authenticated on the remote network before connecting.

Microsoft##EESS and MSDE SQL 2000 on Windows 2003 Small Business Server
Currently a server running 2003 small business operating system has MSDE 2000 and Microsoft##SSEE.
A memory problem exists with SQL consuming over 50% of RAM. Total RAM is 4GB.
There is a SQL 2000 patch for this type of problem. However, it calls for SQL to be upgraded to SP4.
Problem:
Can this MSDE 2000 be upgraded with SP4 and have memory patch applied with Microsoft##SSEE also on this box?
Please let me know. Thank you.
Yes.
You might also investigate setting the MAX memory setting for both SQL instances.

Yes you can update with SQL Server SP4.
Refering to SQL Server memory architecture it goes upto maximum limit specify by you, and if not specified it can eat up all the memory it can access and freed up as N when require by another resources. I think below articles are good enough to clear it

if you can not connect using SQL Server authentication at all, this usually
means that only Windows Authentication is enabled for that instance, and you
have to manually enable it, modifying a Windows registry key, as explained
in http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;285097
if you can connect with SQL Server authentication, but want to clear the sa
password to a blank password, you can execute
EXEC sp_password @.new = 'am301065' , @.loginame = 'sa'
but I strongly warn you not to do it... a strong password always is your

Microsoft Support to MSDE
Hi ,
Does microsoft supports MSDE still or it will support only Sql 2005 Express edition.
Hi,see: http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlexpress/archive/2006/08/09/693650.aspx
· MSDE 2000 s almost at the end of it's support life cycle - MSDE 2000 will exit mainstream support on 4/8/2008 and no new deployment agreements will be allowed after June 30, 2007.

Microsoft SQL Web Data Administrator
The instance of my DB is running.
My Server Manager Says that it is running, Services says that it is running,
but I cannot get to the SQLServer (On my own pc) with the Web Data
Administrator or TOAD for SQL Server.
|||It is quite possible that it is running on a non-standard port not 1433.
Open up a console window and type following
PROMPT> telnet localhost 1433
if you see a blank screen that means the server is listening. If you get
an error that means that it is listening on a different port

|||It is listen in on a different PORT...how do I change that?

|||To determine the port MSDE is using, run the SQL Server Network Utility
on the machine hosting the MSDE instance. The SQL Server Network
Utility can be found at \Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\80\Tools\Binn\svrnetcn.exe.
On the general tab, select the your MSDE instance. Select TCP/IP and
press the Properties button and look at the port
